O’ahu Heats Up

Is O’ahu ready for Startup Weekend? We’re gearing up with new organizers, Sean and Dave for Startup Weekend, Hawaii Style: Island-Wide. Check back for more updates soon!
Dayna MarcumBio: Aloha, I'm Dayna, an entrepreneur since 1999. My first adventure, Chess Executive Search, specialized in executive and attorney search.
In 2007 we launched Local Reach, a web media startup in Houston. Since social networking was not cool yet, I took a hiatus with family until the industry understood the benefits of live mobile content development. Recently, a move to Kaua'i (a Hawaiian Island) catapulted the company into the tourism and entertainment industry. We needed a better backdrop to build Mobile Adventure Campaigns, a new idea that works. Personally, the perfect work day consists of writing live reality shows starring entrepreneurs to raise money for causes. What do I do for fun? Hang with my kids; Kenli and Kamron, bring dreams to life for entrepreneurs, and experience the island of Kaua'i. You'll usually find me broadcasting my experiences on Kaua'i. Follow me @kauaiday. Mahalo!

Wow, a tsunami? Really? That was quite the experience! Most everyone I spoke with had some kind of intuition or warning. “The Coconut Wireless” is the underground network on the island. Most people here don’t watch TV or the radio because we’re out hiking, surfing or working.
Here’s some of the footage from tsunami day – just a big party!
The most important news is that Startup Weekend is happening!
On Kauai, we work hard and play hard. You get SAND-FRONT seats to a show with a few of our friends. Want Matthew Ebel to sport your name as he broadcasts from the event, Saturday Night? Sign up as a Platinum Sponsor! We’ll have Evan & Jason from I Wear Your Shirt , to share their PR expertise, too.
This week we’ll be pushing the message to all the Hawaiian islands through some of the local stations. March 17th, we’ll be talking a bit about it on Making the Brand Show, broadcasting live from The Hyatt.

Saturday Night Spot
If you’re a business, sponsor the event and get some awesome coverage! To attend, get your tickets today!
Mahalo and Aloha!

The first island of Hawaii to host SW is Kaua’i, at The Grand Hyatt Resort!
We might as well spoil you while you’re on island. The room rate is $205/night, regularly $450 should you choose to stay onsite. Come early and stay late; make it a vacation with the family or friends. Myself and a host of others will be touring you guys around the island during your off time.
Alternatives for accommodations include The Poipu Inn (Owner, Nick Ballew will be one of our leaders) and the afore mentioned Waipouli Beach Resorts. To get the best rates on those condos and rental cars DM me @kauaiday.
Flights are CHEAP if you book soon or at the very last minute.
In fact, we’d like you to plan with us – to grasp the concept of business life on the island. Adventuring to us is like a Happy Hour – we hike, kayak and surf to meet other business contacts. We also go scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, fishing, kiting and surfing and hang out with friends. It’s one big working party and we can’t wait for you to join the Ohana.
We wanted to get your idea of fun. Choose three activities, get your flights and we’ll see you in Kaua’i!
Mahalo!
Aloha!

Ok everyone, it’s final! The first Startup Weekend Hawaii is coming April 24th – 25th.
The venue will be at a great plantation right next to the water at Kukui’ula Village in Poi’pu, Kaloa Town, Kauai
If you are traveling from out of town, we are securing some great rates for hotels nearby.
Aside from lining up some amazing speakers and mentors to attend the weekend, and since this is Hawaii, we have some great opportunities. If you come early, we will be putting package deals together for some special trips for Thursday and Friday. Right now, we have the option to do hang gliding, scuba, hiking the Napali Coast, snorkeling, sailing, and fishing trips. What better way to network than to hang out with some fellow entrepreneurs?!
The hotel will be extremely affordable. It is a 4 star hotel, and we are working out a packge for this as well. Check the pictures: http://waipouli-beach-resorts.com/
Stay tuned int he next couple days to purchase your event tickets, hotel & adventure packages. We won’t be doing anything special with flights, so you can go ahead and start looking for those. We will encourage most people to arrive Wednesday afternoon and plan on leaving after the event early Monday morning.
This will be a new spin on Startup Weekend. We are excited!
